Painting in Progress

This week's attempt at painting proved much more successful! I felt more in tune with my marks and shapes this week. I started with a single teardrop shape and the rest flowed... I'm enjoying the white spaces as well as filling in the gaps so not sure where this piece will end up, time will tell!

Quentin Blake

I went to see Quentin Blake's exhibition today called AS LARGE AS LIFE, a collection of works created for use in hospitals. Some were taken from children's wards, eating disorder units and birthing wards. I fell in love with the meanings behind the images and the carefree yet perfectly drawn illustrations. Below are a few of my favourites!

Painting

Not very inspired this week, as you can tell. Felt a massive block when I began to paint and couldn't bring myself to even make a mark on the paper at first.
Think the spirals represent the constant churning going on in my stomach, worry and stress. I didn't consciously use dark colours but it just turned out that way, really reflecting my mood.

ROAR

I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath
Scared to rock the boat and make a mess
So I sat quietly, agreed politely
I guess that I forgot I had a choice
I let you push me past the breaking point
I stood for nothing, so I fell for everything

You held me down, but I got up
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, you hear that sound
Like thunder gonna shake the ground
You held me down, but I got up
Get ready cause I’ve had enough
I see it all, I see it now

I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire
Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me ROAR
Louder, louder than a lion

Now I’m floating like a butterfly
Stinging like a bee I earned my stripes
I went from zero, to my own hero
